Aether B

Aether B is an aerial action-racing game that brings the sensation of drifting into the third dimension. Featuring slick twin-stick controls and retro PS1 graphics, Aether B takes the white-knuckle racing of games like F-Zero and Wipeout and projects it into the skies.

Controls

Use a controller for the best experience.

Gameplay

• Left stick (or WASD): steering
• Right stick (or IJKL): strafing
• Right trigger (or space): accelerate
• Left trigger (or shift): brake
• Press left stick (or F): select

Menu

• Start (or tab): open menu
• Back (or Xbox B, or Q): close menu / previous menu
• D-pad (or WASD): navigate menu / change value
• Xbox A (or tab): select
• Xbox X (or B): change setting to minimum
• Xbox Y (or N): change setting to maximum

Misc

• F1: reset craft
  
• Esc: quit

Mechanics

• Dashing: Double tap accelerate or any of the four strafing directions to dash in that direction. Dashing takes energy, which regenerates over time.
• Drifting: Hold accelerate and brake at the same time to drift. You turn faster while drifting but also lose speed.
• Rolling over: If you end up sideways or upside down, release the accelerator and the craft will right itself automatically. You only have to let off for a moment for it to roll over.
• Racing: You can start the race at the blue starting area. Fly through all the hoops in order to complete the race. The next hoop is always orange.
• Time trial: Your latest race time remains frozen on the timer once you finish. Try to get the fastest time you can!

Upgrades

• Use the function keys to upgrade or downgrade the stats on your ship.
• Press a function key to upgrade a particular stat. Press shift plus that key to downgrade that stat.
• You can hold control and press a function key to upgrade that stat to the max; or control, shift, and a function key together to set the stat to zero.
• F2: Max speed
• F3: Acceleration
• F4: Authority (steering and strafing speed)
• F5: Handling
• F6: Max energy and energy regeneration
• F7: Max health

Future Directions

This is a prototype for a much larger concept. With your support, I intend to add:

• Up to 70 areas to race through, each with unique environments.
• Leaderboard and ghosts for time trials.
• Aerial combat with dozens of weapons against a variety of enemies and bosses.
• Campaign mode with original story.
• Romance, laughs, tragedy, epic battles, moral quandary.
• Original electronic soundtrack; drum and bass, jungle, and techno.
